New Summer Camps @ UCF for grades 1-12

Orlando Repertory Theatre, in partnership with UCF, has expanded its summer programming to include fun, theatre-based camps on campus at UCF. These camps are for students in rising 1st to 12th grades. Each week-long camp concludes with a not-to-be-missed Friday Shareformance. Morning Care and After Care are also available.

UCF Conservatory Theatre Teams up with the Red Chair Project to Promote Central Florida Arts

Recently, the company of UCF Conservatory Theatre's dance concert, TranscenDance, was approached by United Arts of Central Florida and the Red Chair Project to participate in a photography exhibit teaming up professional photographers with dance companies to capture images of the dancers in rehearsal with their iconic red chair for publication in a book to raise funds and awareness for arts organizations in the Central Florida area. Kyra Belan, a photographer from Southern Florida, came and worked with the dancers and choreographers to capture images of TranscenDance.

The Red Chair Project is a community service designed to increase participation in the Central Florida arts and cultural community. As a collaborative effort involving arts and cultural organizations from Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole and Volusia counties, Red Chair Project is the definitive branding campaign to promote the region’s cultural assets. A nonprofit service, the Red Chair Project strives to increase participation by providing methods to increase ticket sales, increase arts education opportunities and promote arts and cultural philanthropy.

Artist, author, mythologist, and art historian, Dr. Kyra Belan graduated from Arizona State University with a B.F.A. in fine arts, and from Florida State University with an M.F.A. in visual arts. Her Ed. D. from Florida International University, is in higher education and art history. Dr. Belan has had over 45 solo art exhibitions and has participated in over 80 group art exhibitions. She has received numerous awards, including Whoʼs Who in American Art, 2008-9; the Florida Achievement Award in the Arts, Women's Caucus for Art Florida Chapter, 2007-8; the Southeastern Art Conference Outstanding Artistic Achievement Award, University of Arkansas at Little Rock 2005; Broward County's Women's Hall of Fame, Outstanding Achievement in the Arts, 1994; and the Individual Artist Fellowship, Florida Arts Council, 1982. Her artworks are found in numerous public and private collections. Currently Dr. Belan is an artist (painting, drawing, installation, photography) and is working on her latest book, Sacred Ladies in America and a re-release of The Virgin in Art.

"Dames at Sea" Selected for KC/ACTF

Congratulations to UCF Conservatory Theatre: Its production of Dames At Sea is one of six university productions selected to perform at upcoming the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Region 4 Festival in Daytona Beach.

In celebration of this achievement, public performances will be presented at Hagerty High School in Oviedo and at the News-Journal Center in Daytona Beach. [More...]

Rebecca Galarza named IAAPA 2010 Best Female Performer

UCF Conservatory Theatre would like to congratulate junior musical-theater major,  Rebecca Galarza, for being named "2010 Best Female Performer" by the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions Brass Ring Awards. Rebecca was selected as a finalist for her work at Santa’s Village in Jefferson, New Hampshire working with RWS and Associates.

The IAAPA Membership is composed of every Amusement Park, Waterpark, zoo, or public attraction in the world. Brass Ring Awards deliver recognition to outstanding performers and shows in live entertainment and denote excellence in all aspects of Amusement Parks including Rides, Food, Atmosphere, and Entertainment.

Harriett Lake Honored at "The Chimes" Reception

Orlando philanthropist, Harriett Lake, was honored by the cast and crew of The Chimes during a reception following the Oct 8 performance.

In The Chimes first debuted in Central Florida at the Orlando/UCF Shakespeare Festival's "Harriet Lake Festival of New Plays" in 2009.

The UCF staging came about thanks to the partnership between Orlando Shakespeare Theater and UCF. Lee is associate director of Playfest and new-play development at the Shakes, as well as a UCF professor of directing.

"Playfest director Patrick Flick and I discovered the play while reading for Playfest," Lee says. "I really liked the writing. And it moves back and forth in time a lot, which is fun."

In The Chimes, two men in their 60s reunite at the boys' prep school they attended in 1939 and remember pivotal events of their youth, shown in flashbacks. A key memory: their anti-Semitic headmaster.

"The students love it because it's about students," Lee says, "and the teacher in me loves it because it's about teaching."

RENT raises over $3500 for Hope and Help

On Wed, April, 14, Earl Weaver and the cast of Rent presented a check for over $3500 to Hope and Help of Central Florida. The money was raised by the cast passing a bucket and collecting patron donations after each performance.  


Hope and Help of Central Florida works to save lives by treating and preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS in Central Florida and provides assistance with programs such as Case Management, Peer Support Services, Food Pantry and much more .
